PCB Chairman Vows Major Changes After Disappointing Loss to India in T20 World Cup

In the aftermath of Pakistan’s stunning defeat against India in the T20 World Cup match, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has indicated sweeping changes in the national team, referring to the need for a “major surgery.”

“After this dismal performance, it’s evident that only minor adjustments won’t suffice. We require substantial changes. The nation will witness a significant overhaul soon,” Naqvi remarked during a press briefing following the Pak-Ind clash on Sunday.

Despite a commendable effort by the bowlers, who restricted India to 119 runs after winning the toss, Pakistan, commonly known as the Green Shirts, faltered, losing by a narrow margin of six runs.

Expressing his disappointment over the team’s performance, Naqvi stated, “The loss to India was disheartening in every aspect. I am aware of the team’s internal dynamics and the underlying causes of our defeat.”

Naqvi emphasized that the primary challenge lies in elevating the team’s performance, which currently languishes at its lowest ebb.

Looking ahead to future tournaments, Naqvi underscored the urgency of preparing a formidable squad for the Champions Trophy 2025. “It’s time to explore fresh talent from outside,” he asserted.

“We aspire to position the Pakistani cricket team among the world’s elite. The nation expects nothing short of excellence from our cricketing endeavors,” Naqvi added.

Pakistan’s poor batting display squandered a golden opportunity to revive their campaign, as they fell short in pursuit of a modest 120-run target against India.

The reckless batting lineup crumbled under pressure, managing only 113 for 7, thus conceding an unexpected six-run victory to their arch-rivals.

This defeat has severely limited Pakistan’s options, as they now rely on the outcomes of other matches to determine their chances of progressing to the next stage.

Opting to bowl first on a challenging pitch, Pakistan’s Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf impressed with three wickets each, while Rishabh Pant’s brisk 42-run innings anchored India’s innings.

In response, Mohammad Rizwan provided a steady start with a patient 31, but Pakistan lost wickets at regular intervals. Jasprit Bumrah’s crucial breakthroughs, ending with figures of 3-14, dashed Pakistan’s hopes of victory.
The outcome leaves India undefeated in Group A, with two wins from as many matches, while Pakistan languishes at zero points after suffering defeats in their initial encounters against hosts United States and India. For more updates visit PakOZ.
