Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman Challenged by Young Pacer Ubaid Shah in Practice Session

In a recent practice session, Pakistan’s white-ball captain Babar Azam and top-order batsman Fakhar Zaman faced significant challenges from emerging fast bowler Ubaid Shah. Ubaid, the younger sibling of renowned pacer Naseem Shah, has been making a name for himself with impressive performances at the youth level and in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) with Islamabad United. Another Shah brother, Hunain, is also part of the United squad.

During the session, Ubaid’s skills were on full display. He bowled a delivery outside the off-stump to Babar Azam, which the captain left alone. However, the ball sharply swung back and narrowly missed the stumps, showcasing Ubaid’s control and ability to move the ball. Later, a short-pitched delivery aimed at Babar saw him attempting a hook shot, only to be struck on the chest, underlining the young bowler’s pace and bounce.

Fakhar Zaman also had a tough time against Ubaid. Attempting a defensive shot, Fakhar missed the ball entirely as it whisked past his bat and landed safely in the wicketkeeper’s gloves, indicating the precision and threat posed by the young bowler.

Ubaid Shah’s rise has been noteworthy. He was the second-highest wicket-taker at the Under-19 World Cup 2024 in South Africa, claiming 18 wickets and earning a spot in the tournament’s best XI.

As for their upcoming commitments, Babar Azam is preparing for Pakistan’s two-match home Test series against Bangladesh, set to begin in August. Fakhar Zaman, who is not part of the Test squad, will be participating in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024, which kicks off on August 29.
