The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has introduced a new policy mandating player participation in domestic cricket as a prerequisite for national team selection. This strategic move was decided during a meeting chaired by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. Mohsin Naqvi approved a comprehensive plan to promote and strengthen domestic cricket across various levels, from club competitions to national tournaments.
The PCB announced plans to organize domestic tournaments covering all three formats of the game (T20, One-Day, and Test cricket) for the 2024-25 season.
These tournaments are aimed at providing a robust platform for players to showcase their talent and fitness, which will be crucial for their selection in the national team.
Emphasizing the need for skilled coaching, the PCB plans to appoint a master coach who will be responsible for training domestic cricket coaches.
This initiative is aimed at ensuring that domestic players receive high-quality coaching to improve their skills and performance.
The selection criteria for the national team will now heavily rely on the performance and fitness of players in domestic events.
Naqvi stressed that merit, performance, and fitness would be the key factors for player advancement.
During the meeting, participants reviewed the domestic cricket structures of various successful cricketing nations.
