In a major reshuffle, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) unveiled its new selection committee on Friday, following the dismissal of former selectors Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq earlier this week. Riaz, who was also serving as the senior team manager, was replaced, along with team manager Mansoor Rana.
The newly constituted selection panel features former cricketers Asad Shafiq and Mohammad Yousuf. They will work alongside the captains and head coaches of the various formats. Test captain Shan Masood and red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie have been appointed to assist Shafiq and Yousuf in selecting the squad for the forthcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh.
Additionally, the committee will be supported by non-voting members, including assistant coach Azhar Mahmood, Advisor to the Chairman Bilal Afzal, Manager of Analytics and Team Strategy Hassan Cheema, Director of High Performance Nadeem Khan, and Director of International Cricket Usman Wahla.
In a notable development, Asad Shafiq will also take on the role of selector for the women’s team, collaborating with Batool Fatima, the current captain Nida Dar, and head coach Mohammad Waseem.
These changes are part of a comprehensive restructuring initiative hinted at by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi last month. The overhaul comes in the wake of Pakistan’s disappointing exit from the group stage of the T20 World Cup, following a surprising loss to the USA and a narrow defeat to India.
The PCB’s revamped selection committee reflects its commitment to addressing performance issues and strengthening the team’s prospects in upcoming international fixtures.
