The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) remains resolute in its decision to hold all matches of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy within Pakistan, despite emerging rumours suggesting the possibility of neutral venues or an alternative plan.
Pakistan is set to host the Champions Trophy in 2025, and recent speculations have surfaced indicating that the Indian cricket team might refuse to travel to Pakistan, instead playing their matches at a neutral location. However, the PCB has reaffirmed its commitment to staging the entire event on home soil.
An important discussion on this matter is anticipated at the ICC’s annual meeting, scheduled from July 19 to 22 in Colombo. The PCB delegation plans to present a robust case for hosting the tournament exclusively in Pakistan.
According to the PCB’s proposed schedule submitted to the ICC, the matches will be hosted at three primary venues: Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lahore. Notably, Lahore has been earmarked for all of India’s fixtures.
In preparation for the marquee event, the PCB has allocated Rs12.80 billion for the enhancement of three stadiums: Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi, and Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium. These upgrades are part of the board’s strategy to ensure world-class facilities for the tournament.
Apart from India, the other participating teams in the Champions Trophy have previously played in Pakistan, which strengthens the PCB’s position. The board believes that India lacks substantial grounds for not participating in Pakistan.
Moreover, the PCB has issued a stern warning that if India opts out of traveling for the Champions Trophy, Pakistan will reciprocate by refusing to participate in the 2026 T20 World Cup, which India is co-hosting with Sri Lanka.
The Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9, 2025. This event marks the return of the ICC Champions Trophy after an eight-year hiatus, with the last tournament held in 2017 where Pakistan clinched victory against India in the final.
As the cricketing world anticipates this prestigious tournament, the PCB’s firm stance highlights its dedication to hosting a successful event in Pakistan, despite the uncertainties surrounding India’s participation.
