The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially announced an upcoming U19 tri-series featuring Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), slated for 13 to 26 November 2024. This event, yet to have its venue confirmed, will serve as crucial preparation for the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup scheduled later this year.
The series will adopt a double round-robin format, with each team playing two matches against the others. The top two teams will advance to the final, providing ample opportunity for the young players to showcase their talent and vie for a spot in the U19 Asia Cup squad.
Pakistan will kick off the series against the UAE on 13 November. The matches will continue as follows:
– 15 November: Afghanistan vs Pakistan
– 17 November: UAE vs Afghanistan
– 19 November: Pakistan vs Afghanistan
– 21 November: Afghanistan vs UAE
– 23 November: UAE vs Pakistan
The final match, determining the winner of the series, is scheduled for 26 November.
In preparation for the tri-series, the PCB plans to host a National U19 Cup (50-over) and Championship (three-day) in October. These domestic competitions will provide a platform for young players to impress the selectors and secure their places in the squad.
Usman Wahla, PCB Director International, expressed enthusiasm for the tri-series, highlighting its importance as a developmental opportunity for emerging players. “We are thrilled to see our U19 team participating in a highly competitive series in the UAE just ahead of the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup. This series is an excellent chance for our young players to gain experience and hone their skills,” Wahla said. He also acknowledged the Emirates Cricket Board for their cooperation, reflecting strong bilateral ties and a shared commitment to nurturing young talent.
This tri-series promises to be a significant event for all participating teams, offering invaluable match experience and exposure ahead of the prestigious U19 Asia Cup.
