In a surprising turn of events, no Pakistani players were included in the ICC’s Team of the Tournament for the T20 World Cup 2024. The team selection prominently featured six players from the victorious Indian squad, which triumphed over South Africa in a nail-biting final.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) recognized the top performers of the competition, which involved 20 teams. India’s skipper Rohit Sharma, who announced his retirement following his team’s second T20 World Cup victory, was named the captain of the prestigious team. His teammates Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, and Jasprit Bumrah were also included.
Afghanistan made headlines by reaching their first-ever semi-final in a T20 World Cup, with standout performances from captain Rashid Khan, dynamic opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and left-arm fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi. All three Afghan players earned spots in the Team of the Tournament.
Rounding out the XI were West Indies opener Nicholas Pooran and Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis. South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje was named as the 12th man.
