Legendary wrestler John Cena has officially announced his retirement from World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), bringing an end to a career that has spanned over two decades. Cena made the unexpected announcement during a surprise appearance at the Money in the Bank event held in Toronto, Canada, on Saturday.

Cena, whose entrance theme “The Time is Now” is iconic among wrestling fans, confirmed that WrestleMania 2025 will be his final appearance in the WWE ring.

“Tonight, I am here to share a significant update,” Cena revealed to an audience initially filled with mixed reactions. “I am announcing my retirement from WWE.”

Cena emphasized that his retirement journey would be filled with memorable moments. “This farewell does not conclude tonight. It is an opportunity to make history and create lasting memories. Next year, WWE Raw transitions to Netflix, marking a historic moment. I will be a part of that milestone,” he said.

Cena outlined his farewell schedule, announcing that the 2025 Royal Rumble and the 2025 Elimination Chamber would be his final participations in those events. “And in Las Vegas, WrestleMania 2025 will mark my last appearance on the grandest stage of them all,” Cena added.

Initially met with boos, the crowd quickly shifted to applause and chants of “thank you” as Cena expressed his gratitude. “Thank you for allowing me to perform in the arena you built,” he said. “Your voice has always been loud and your honesty beautifully brutal. Thank you for the opportunity to announce my plans here tonight.”

Cena hinted at more exciting developments ahead, including a return to Toronto. “We are planning something unforgettable, which includes me coming back to Toronto to settle some scores,” he concluded.

Cena’s announcement marks the end of an era in WWE, where he has been a cornerstone and fan favorite for years.
