India gets hosting rights for T20 Asia Cup 2025

India is set to host the men’s Asia Cup in T20 format next year, while the 2027 edition will be held in Bangladesh in a 50-over format. According to the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) Invitation for Expressions of Interest for sponsorship rights, the tournament will feature 13 matches with six participating teams: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and a sixth team that will qualify through a preliminary event.

While the exact dates are yet to be confirmed, sources suggest the tournament could be scheduled for September, post-monsoon season in India.

The International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Future Tours Programme (FTP) 2023-27 indicates a busy year for India. They will play a limited-overs series against England in January-February, followed by the Champions Trophy in February-March. Post-IPL, India will tour England from June to August, followed by a series in Bangladesh for three ODIs and three T20Is. Consequently, the Asia Cup is anticipated to take place between the Bangladesh series and the two-match Test series against the West Indies in October. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to finalize the venues.

In 2026, there will be no men’s Asia Cup, but the Women’s Asia Cup will be held in the T20 format. Additionally, the men’s U-19 and Emerging Teams Asia Cup tournaments are scheduled for that year.

Last year’s Asia Cup was conducted in a hybrid model with Pakistan hosting a few matches and India playing its fixtures in Sri Lanka. Under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, India triumphed over Sri Lanka in the final by 10 wickets at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
