FIFA Goes ‘Aa’ as Arif Lohar’s Song Features in Instagram Post for Lionel Messi

Punjabi folk singer Arif Lohar’s latest release, “Aa,” was recently highlighted on FIFA World Cup’s official Instagram page, creating a buzz among football and music fans alike. The song was featured in a post celebrating Lionel Messi’s 37th birthday, along with a video commemorating his 2022 World Cup victory. The caption in Urdu translated to “Messi’s magic!” adding an unexpected cultural touch to the tribute.

Arif Lohar, a legendary artist known for his powerful voice and ability to blend traditional music with modern beats, has long been celebrated for his diverse repertoire. His latest hit, “Aa,” quickly gained popularity, amassing over 101 million views on YouTube since its release three months ago. The music video, filmed in London, features Lohar dancing to a hip-hop beat alongside rappers Roach Killa and Deep Jandu, showcasing his signature chimta.

The song’s origin is equally intriguing. In a BBC interview, Lohar revealed that the idea came from a casual moment with his children while rehearsing in London. He jokingly told them, “Aa tenu chips khwawan” (Come here, I’ll feed you chips), which later inspired the catchy tune.

The FIFA Instagram post featuring “Aa” generated a mix of reactions from fans. Some were amused by the unexpected use of a Punjabi song, while others speculated that FIFA’s account might have been hacked. Pakistani model and actor Khaqan Shahnawaz humorously commented with two goat emojis, symbolizing the greatness of both Messi and Lohar.

This collaboration underscores FIFA’s commitment to celebrating cultural diversity and has further heightened anticipation for the World Cup. Arif Lohar’s continued innovation and cultural impact through songs like “Aa” exemplify his enduring appeal and artistic versatility.
