The Bangladesh men’s cricket team is set to arrive in Pakistan earlier than initially planned to prepare for their upcoming ICC World Test Championship matches. Originally scheduled to reach Islamabad on August 17, the team will now arrive in Lahore on the morning of August 13, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Saturday.
This adjustment in the schedule comes as part of an agreement between the PCB and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to provide the visiting team with extra time to acclimate to the local conditions. The PCB extended the invitation to Bangladesh for an early arrival, ensuring that the team would have ample opportunity to train and familiarize themselves with the environment ahead of their crucial Test matches.
Once in Lahore, the Bangladesh team will conduct a series of training sessions at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium from August 14 to 16. They will then proceed to Islamabad on August 17, where they will continue their preparations with practice sessions at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from August 18 to 20. This additional training time is expected to help the players fine-tune their skills ahead of the first Test match in Rawalpindi, scheduled from August 21 to 25, followed by the second Test in Karachi from August 30 to September 3.
Salman Naseer, Chief Operating Officer of the PCB, expressed his pleasure at the BCB’s acceptance of the invitation. “Sports is not just about competition; it’s also about building strong relationships between teams. We believe that these extra training sessions in Lahore will provide the Bangladesh players with a valuable opportunity to bring out their best on the international stage,” Naseer said.
He added, “We are thrilled to welcome the Bangladesh men’s cricket team to Lahore on August 13. The additional days of practice at Gaddafi Stadium will not only give them a chance to acclimate but also experience our renowned hospitality. This cooperation between the PCB and BCB reflects the spirit of sportsmanship and mutual respect between our nations.”
Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, the Chief Executive of the BCB, expressed gratitude towards the PCB for facilitating this extended training period. “The extra days of practice in Pakistan will significantly benefit our players as they adjust to the local conditions. We appreciate the PCB’s gesture, which will undoubtedly enhance our preparations for the ICC World Test Championship series,” Chowdhury remarked.
This marks Bangladesh’s first visit to Pakistan since 2020, when they participated in a series of three T20 Internationals in Lahore and a single Test match in Rawalpindi. Additionally, Bangladesh played two matches in Lahore during the recent ACC Asia Cup 2023, facing Afghanistan and Pakistan.
As both teams gear up for these important Test matches, the early arrival and extended training schedule highlight the collaborative efforts between the PCB and BCB to ensure a competitive and well-prepared series.
