Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan keep their ranking in T20 spots

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the latest T20 rankings on Wednesday, with Pakistan’s star batsmen Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan maintaining their positions. Babar Azam holds the third spot, while Mohammad Rizwan is in fourth. India’s Suryakumar Yadav and England’s Phil Salt continue to rank first and second, respectively.

Australia’s Travis Head made a significant leap, moving up five places to secure the fifth spot. Meanwhile, Nicholas Pooran climbed to the 11th position after an impressive performance, scoring 98 runs against Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup 2024.

A notable change in the rankings is Marcus Stoinis replacing Mohammad Nabi as the No. 1 T20 all-rounder. Stoinis’s performance in the ongoing T20 World Cup, including taking six wickets and making key contributions with the bat, propelled him to the top spot. His pivotal innings of 59 from 29 balls against Scotland was particularly crucial in securing Australia’s advancement to the Super Eight stage with a perfect record.

Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga and Bangladesh’s veteran star Shakib Al Hasan also improved their all-rounder rankings, now occupying the second and third spots respectively, with Nabi dropping to fourth.

In the bowling rankings, West Indies’ Akeal Hosein moved up six places to second, just behind England’s Adil Rashid, who remains at number one.

The ICC highlighted Stoinis’s achievements in their press release, stating, “Mohammad Nabi’s stay at the top of the ICC Men’s T20I All-rounder Rankings has been short, with some stunning performances boosting Australia’s Marcus Stoinis to the summit. His 2/9 helped his side to a hammering of Namibia, but he saved his most important contribution until last in the group stage, hitting an inspired 59 from 29 balls to steer Australia to a win over Scotland that looked a long way off when he came to the crease at 60/3 in the ninth over.”

Overall, the latest ICC rankings reflect the dynamic nature of T20 cricket, with several players making significant strides based on their recent performances in the T20 World Cup.
