Ahmed Shehzad Calls Virat Kohli the Greatest Cricketer of Our Generation

Pakistan’s right-handed batsman Ahmed Shehzad recently commended India’s Virat Kohli, emphasizing that no current cricketer compares to him, lauding Kohli as a legend of this generation.

Despite Kohli, 35, experiencing a challenging T20 World Cup 2024, he delivered a pivotal performance in the final, scoring 76 runs off 59 balls. This crucial innings earned him the Player of the Match award and played a significant role in India securing the title.

Shehzad highlighted that Kohli’s exceptional performance was instrumental in breaking India’s ICC trophy drought, culminating in their victory at the T20 World Cup.

“Virat Kohli is truly a legend of our time. His passion for the game is evident every time he steps on the field. Even during his last T20I, his enthusiasm was palpable as he celebrated every wicket from long-on and long-off. Despite not scoring much throughout the tournament, his destiny seemed to favor him in the final,” Shehzad remarked during a media interaction in Dubai.

The Pakistani cricketer pointed out that Kohli’s resilience on the pitch was unmatched, especially when other batsmen struggled. He also extended his best wishes to the Indian cricket team in their quest to find a worthy successor to Kohli, while stressing that no player should be compared to him.

“Kohli’s final performance was crucial when others faltered. Without his innings, India wouldn’t have clinched the T20 World Cup. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy in T20 cricket. Good luck to Indian cricket in finding someone to fill his massive shoes. Comparing Babar Azam or any other player to him is unfair,” Shehzad added.

India’s triumph marked their first ICC trophy since 2013, making them the third team, after West Indies and England, to win the T20 World Cup twice.

Following their Champions Trophy victory in 2013, India faced a series of setbacks, losing five ICC finals – the T20 World Cup in 2014, the Champions Trophy in 2017, the World Test Championship in 2021 and 2023, and the ODI World Cup in 2023.
