Bumrah Praises Leadership of Kohli and Sharma After India’s T20 World Cup Triumph

In a thrilling climax to the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies, India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has heaped praise on the leadership qualities of veterans Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The victory marked an end to India’s 11-year wait for an ICC trophy.

Bumrah played a pivotal role in India’s campaign, capturing 15 wickets throughout the tournament and earning the Player of the Tournament award. His performance in the final, where he delivered under immense pressure, was particularly crucial.

In an interview with The Indian Express, Bumrah humorously declared himself as his favorite Indian captain, saying, “My favorite captain is me because I have captained a few games. Obviously, there are great captains, but I will take my name. I am my favorite captain.”

Turning serious, Bumrah praised Sharma’s leadership, especially highlighting the recent Test series against England. “During the England series, Rohit created a very comfortable atmosphere for the young players. He went out of his way to support them, taking extra steps to ensure they felt included and motivated. He made it clear that everyone on the team was equally important,” Bumrah said.

Bumrah also shared insights from his early days with the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, revealing how much he trusted Sharma’s judgment. “I used to tell Rohit, ‘You set the field, and I will bowl accordingly. I trust your decisions.’ This kind of trust and understanding is crucial between a bowler and a captain,” he explained.

Bumrah didn’t hold back in his admiration for Kohli, who retired from T20 cricket after the World Cup victory. “Virat is driven by energy and passion. He wears his heart on his sleeve and has significantly raised our fitness standards. Even though he’s no longer the captain, he remains a leader in every sense,” Bumrah said of the 35-year-old Kohli.

India’s T20 World Cup win has been a testament to the team’s resilience and the leadership of its senior players. With Bumrah’s standout performances and the guidance of Sharma and Kohli, the future of Indian cricket looks promising.
