India beat England by 68 runs and reach T20 World Cup Final

India displayed a dominant performance to secure their spot in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 final by thrashing England at Providence Stadium. Led by a stellar innings from Rohit Sharma and a superb collective bowling effort, India emerged victorious, booking their place in the grand finale.

Opting to bat first, India faced early setbacks with the quick dismissals of Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant. Kohli was bowled by Reece Topley for a mere 8 runs, and Pant fell to Sam Curran shortly after, leaving India struggling at 40/2 within the powerplay.

However, Rohit Sharma, with his experience and composure, steadied the ship alongside Suryakumar Yadav. The duo carefully navigated the middle overs, building a crucial 73-run partnership. Sharma’s aggressive 57 off 39 balls, which included six boundaries and two maximums, set the tone for the innings.

Suryakumar Yadav, contributing a well-crafted 47 from 36 balls, supported Sharma effectively until he was undone by a slower delivery from Jofra Archer. Despite the setbacks, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja’s quick-fire 22-run partnership in the death overs helped India post a competitive total of 171/7.

Chasing 172, England needed a solid start but were quickly in trouble as Indian bowlers seized control. Jos Buttler’s promising start, scoring 23 from 15 balls, ended abruptly when he fell to Axar Patel’s clever bowling.

The English batting line-up crumbled under pressure, with key players like Dawid Malan and Moeen Ali falling cheaply. At 46/4 within 8 overs, England were staring down the barrel. Harry Brook tried to revive the innings with a fighting 25 off 19 balls, but his dismissal by Kuldeep Yadav dashed any hopes of a comeback.

Jofra Archer, who contributed 21 off 15 balls, and Liam Livingstone managed to add some runs, but their efforts were in vain as England were bowled out for a paltry 103 in 17 overs. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav were the chief destroyers, each taking three wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah chipped in with two crucial scalps.

Rohit Sharma’s half-century was pivotal in setting up a defendable total for India. His leadership on the field also earned praise as he rotated his bowlers expertly, applying constant pressure on the English batsmen.

Axar Patel, named the Player of the Match, highlighted the significance of executing their game plan flawlessly. “We knew early wickets were crucial, and we stuck to our plans. The pitch offered some turn, and we utilized it well,” he said.

Jos Buttler conceded that his team was outplayed. “India deserved the win today. We couldn’t build partnerships, and their bowlers were outstanding. We need to reflect and come back stronger,” he remarked.

India will now face South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final at Kensington Oval, Barbados, on June 29. With both teams in top form, cricket fans are anticipating a thrilling climax to the tournament. India, buoyed by their commanding semi-final win, will aim to clinch the trophy and solidify their status as a powerhouse in T20 cricket.
